Weekly Poll Results – Personal Independence Payment (PIP)

Thank you to everyone who completed last week’s poll about Personal Independence Payment (PIP)

Question:

Have you, or someone you know, lost a motability vehicle as a result of transferring from Disability Living Allowance (DLA) to Personal Independence Payment (PIP)

YES/NO

Your Feedback:

38% (14 respondents) said YES, that they or someone they knew had lost a mobility vehicle as a result of transferring from Disability Living Allowance (DLA) to Personal Independence Payment (PIP). 62% (23 respondents) said NO, that they or someone they knew had not lost a mobility vehicle.

Your Comments:

“By transferring to PIP from low DLA I got enhanced and therefore a car. Much better off transferring for me.”

“PIP assessment is unfair….there are too many inconsistencies and a system of judgement not understandable to most. It seems that if anyone who shows the least bit of independence, overcoming the challenges they face, will be judged as ‘fit’ and therefore ineligible for PIP”

“PIP is a disgrace – a deliberate attempt to make life even harder for disabled people, to make us prisoners in our homes”

“I’m going on Thursday I’m 68 at the end of this month and I’m scared. I don’t have a mobility car, it’s my own , but if things change I may lose my car and have to consider selling my house.”

“Clearly Motability scheme users are very vulnerable, have very little leverage and control and at the mercy of others”

“I am still waiting to be assessed for PIP. Having read the horror stories surrounding PIP, i wouldn’t be surprised if I am disallowed PIP.”

“I didn’t have a mobility car through choice but although I was paid higher rate mobility for DLA it dropped to lower rate for PIP. Now worried I will not be able to replace my Blue Badge when it comes up for renewal.”

“I am one of the 1000s dreading the post every day. The stress is terrible.”
“Mobility cars should NOT be allowed to be removed from people until after the appeal process has been fully exhausted.”
“I don’t think there is a full understanding of the impact losing a mobility car has on the individual.”
